Local military-connected resources provide support, services, and community connections for active-duty service members, veterans, reservists, National Guard members, and their families. These resources often include:

  • Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs): Local chapters of groups like the American Legion, VFW, or DAV offer advocacy, benefits assistance, and social support.

  • Military Family Support Centers: Typically located near bases, these centers offer counseling, relocation assistance, deployment support, and financial education for military families.

  • VA Clinics & Hospitals: Provide health care, mental health services, and specialized treatment for eligible veterans.

  • Community Outreach & Nonprofits: Organizations like the USO, local food banks, or veteran-focused nonprofits offer essential support, including emergency aid and reintegration programs.

  • Mental Health & Wellness Services: Local providers may offer military-specific counseling, PTSD support groups, and crisis intervention.

These resources aim to enhance the quality of life for military-connected individuals by addressing their unique needs and fostering a sense of community.

On-Campus Resources

Academic Advising - Assists with course and major planning through one-on-one advising to help students achieve their academic goals. Assists students on academic probation.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) 鈥 provides short-term mental health services and same-day crisis intervention in a confidential setting to assist students in achieving their academic goals and overall well-being. Everyday experiences include relationship problems, educational challenges, grief, anxiety, depression, body image, substance misuse, homesickness, suicidal thoughts, interpersonal violence, identity intersectionality, cultural trauma, and other personal concerns

CI Basic Needs 鈥 The Basic Needs Program at 麻豆传媒 provides emergency food and toiletries, connects students to critical on- and off-campus resources, and offers educational opportunities for students to take personal responsibility for their wellness and the well-being of their communities.

CI Emergency Housing 鈥 seeks to provide support to students experiencing housing insecurity on a short-term basis as they identify long-term housing solutions. 麻豆传媒 can give transitional emergency housing accommodations, subject to space availability.

CI Student Health Services 鈥 Student Health Services is here to support you and your overall health needs! We are an outpatient clinic affiliated with the Ventura County Medical System, offering essential healthcare services similar to those found in a primary care clinic. Our mission is to provide compassionate, accessible, and professional health care to 麻豆传媒鈥檚 diverse student population. When your health interferes with your academic success, we aim to remove that barrier as much as possible so you can continue to focus on achieving your degree. Services are confidential and free to all currently enrolled students.

CI Tutoring Opportunities鈥 There is tutoring support for all subjects, such as the Biology Program, Computer Science/IT, Environmental Services, Learning Resource Center (LRC), STEM Center, and Writing & Multiliteracy Center (WMC). The LRC provides additional tutoring.

Disability Accommodations & Support Services (DASS) 鈥 ensures equal access to education for all 麻豆传媒 students. We honor each student鈥檚 unique experiences and support their growth in skills, confidence, and self-advocacy. Through service, resources, and outreach, we foster equity, inclusion, and advocacy. Dolphin Pantry 鈥 The CSU Channel Islands Dolphin Pantry exists to provide immediate food, toiletries, and basic necessities at no cost to students in need. The goal of the Dolphin Pantry is to reduce the impact that food and hygiene insecurities have on students' academic success and to alleviate hunger within our student community. The Dolphin Pantry is located in Arroyo Hall room 115.

Ekho Your Heart Program 鈥 A special disaster relief fund has been established under the Ekho Your Heart Program to assist 麻豆传媒 students, staff, and faculty recovering from natural disasters that may affect members of the campus community. This fund has been established to help provide essential necessities to those in greatest need. To learn more about the Disaster Relief Fund and apply for assistance, please review and complete the . Awards will be granted on a case-by-case basis. Unless otherwise noted, awards are considered taxable income.

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) 鈥 Provides college access to first-generation students whose academic and economic circumstances have limited their college opportunities.

Military-Connected Local Resources

- The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veteran鈥檚 organization. Focusing on service to veterans, service members and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States.

- Provides assistance to help Veterans file claims through the VA, plan for their education and accomplish goals for higher occupational training, and offers special opportunities for on-the-job training for Veterans.

- 鈥婽he California Department of Veterans Affairs (Cal Vet) works to serve California veterans and their families. With nearly 1.6鈥 million veterans living in the State, CalVet strives to ensure that its veterans of every era and their families get the state and federal benefits and services they have earned and deserve as a result of selfless and honorable military service. CalVet strives to serve veterans and their families with dignity and compassion and to help them achieve their highest quality of life.

- The Conejo Free Clinic鈥檚 new state-of-the-art dental clinic is now open in Thousand Oaks and available for veterans. Dental care will be provided without charge by an all-volunteer team of dentists and dental assistants. Veterans and their families must meet the 200 percent California federal poverty income guidelines determined by total household size. Veterans and their families can take advantage of all Conejo Free Clinic services by appointment.

- DOR administers the largest vocational rehabilitation and independent living programs in the country. Vocational rehabilitation services are designed to help job seekers with disabilities obtain competitive employment in integrated work settings. Independent living services may include peer support, skill development, systems advocacy, referrals, assistive technology services, transition services, housing assistance, and personal assistance services. Offices in Thousand Oaks and Oxnard.

- We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America鈥檚 injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

- Our Vision is to create a comprehensive system of care that will disrupt and defeat the chain of events that leads to negative health and life outcomes for veterans. We will use direct intervention to address and resolve the root causes and underlying problems鈥before lives are damaged or lost.

- As a Veteran, you bring a unique set of skills and experiences to the workplace but may face challenges when it comes to finding meaningful employment. Goodwill Industries of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties offers no-cost job-related resources and support to local Veterans, Veteran spouses, and their dependents to help you with your post-service success. We have a number of programs available to help you successfully transition from military service to the civilian workforce.  

- (Fishing, Interacting, Sharing, and Healing) is recognized as the pioneer in providing professional therapy through the power of fishing for America鈥檚 Brave and Courageous by creating a safe environment for healing and developing new coping mechanisms, ultimately improving the quality of their daily lives.

- Horse Sense & Healing, launched in 2010, is a 3-day equine-assisted workshop for Veterans and first responders struggling with post-traumatic stress (PTSD). The equine-assisted program helps Veterans and first responders (and their families) overcome past emotional injuries and learn to trust, communicate emotions and build resiliency to cope after deployment, through the experience of 鈥 globally acclaimed Join-Up庐 process and other ground-based horsemanship activities.

- ROH is proud to serve the active duty, reserves, and veteran members of our community with free mental health services. Our HOPE for Warriors program began in 2010 in response to the alarming statistic of 22 veteran suicides a day in the United States. Today the number is even higher (27). Thus, with compassion and action we moved to assist in addressing this problem. In addition to having been certified by (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association), we have undergone the extensive additional military-specific training to receive the Military Services Designation.

- Supportive Housing for Veteran Families (SSVF) promotes housing and employment stability among veterans and their families. Our program offers a supportive environment for veterans to receive services. Housing Stability staff provide counseling and advocacy regarding housing issues as well as supportive services.

- Connects veterans with each other and the community through positive activities that foster authentic relationships and camaraderie. Ventura County is creating a chapter and will hold events like: running, hiking, rock climbing, boxing, laser tag, golf, billiards, networking and much more! - is a veteran-led humanitarian organization that serves global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises. Our vision is to support humanity and build resiliency for vulnerable communities across the world.

- The mission of the Veteran Mentor Project, Inc. is to enhance military veterans* & first responder veterans鈥 transition from service to civilian life. We provide resources for education, reducing stress, and improving overall quality of life.

- The HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA provides these services for participating Veterans at VA medical centers (VAMCs) and community-based outreach clinics.

- Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) gives veterans who are charged with a crime, whether a felony or misdemeanor, an opportunity to resolve their case with treatment rather than jail. VTC is specifically designed to help veterans.  The program is a collaborative effort with the Office of the Public Defender, the District Attorney, Probation, Veteran Affairs, and local treatment providers.

- The Veteran Services office helps Veterans and their families gain access to the benefits they have earned, such as financial assistance and medical treatment. Veteran Claims Officers provide information, referrals, claims preparation and submission, and follow-up service to ensure Veterans, their dependents, and survivors receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

- Confidential Readjustment Counseling for Veterans, service members, and their families at no cost in a non-medical setting. Our services include counseling for needs such as depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the psychological effects of military sexual trauma (MST). We can also connect you with more support in VA and your community.

- Our program is designed to promote wellness and healing through various, all-encompassing ranch and horseback experiences. Through our program, we bring a much-needed community, a sense of purpose and belonging, and a welcome respite, all at NO COST to our heroes!  A diverse, veteran-founded 501(褋)(3) non-profit organization on a mission to heal our veterans and first responders through the power of working with horses.
